It’s always a great idea to research career options early on before you dive in headfirst. Not only will such research help you contemplate such a  career in detail, but also it gives you a great idea how much everything might cost you in both time and money. If you’re trying to figure out the massage therapy field of expertise, you’ll find that this pretty much holds true. You’ll need to delve in, and figure out how to become a masseuse. On your way there, you’ll probably have gained enough insight and knowledge to determine if giving people healing massage is a good career move.

Let’s start at the beginning – what is it that you need to do to become one. What is the training you need?

The answer to the question of how to become a masseuse isn’t as cut and dried a thing as you might imagine. The thing is, you have to think first about the kind of massage therapy you would like to be able to provide. You could give massages with very little training. With that, you could launch your career as a basic massage therapist.

If you’re really interested in delivering any of the various advanced healing therapies available, you’ll need to go venture deeper into massage-related training.

Note that the part of the country in which you live may have a great deal to do with the kind of preparation you have to put yourself through, too. In two out of three states in the country, there are specific massage licensing laws that dictate specific educational requirements with which you’ll need to qualify. To add a bit of challenge, there are often specific licensing requirements for cities and towns as well.

In general, you’ll find that the licensing rules in any jurisdiction will ask that you should have delivered at least 500 hours of massage therapy, and done several months of massage therapy training at a recognized school.

Most of the time, fulfilling these requirements will take a person at least a year, sometimes two or three. Most massage therapists develop a great deal of skills over this time.

People often have this question about how physically suitable they might be for a job delivering massages. They wonder if they really need to strong deliver massages – to knead flesh, to pull and straighten ligaments and so on. In truth, a certain amount of strength is indeed called for. The good part is that they really teach you how to become masseuse in any of these courses that prepare you. They show you how you can exploit your body weight be able to deliver the kind of pressure needed.

When you finally do qualify, you’ll find a whole world of opportunity out there for you. Opportunities abound at hospitals, nursing homes, film studios, sports medicine centers and so on. Bottom line – with enough effort, it really can be a worthwhile endeavor in figuring out how to become a masseuse. You’ll get to earn about $35,000 a year just working two or three hours a day.  Bottom line – not many careers will offer such rewards for relatively little time.
